ITS THE AGE OLD QUESTION WHATS PLAGUED OUR SCENE FOR YEARS AND THE DIFFERENCE IN OPINION ON THIS SUBJECT IS HUGE...
MCS : A GOOD THING OR NOT!
IVE HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH A LOT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF JUNGLIST OVER THE YEARS AT RAVES, STUDIOS E.T.C AND HAVE HEARD THIS ARGUMENT FROM A LOT OF DIFFERENT ANGLES. SOME PEOPLE SAY MCS ARE THE BEST THING SCINCE SLICED BREAD AND OTHERS WISH THEY DIDNT EXIST!
PERSONLY I DONT THINK MODERN DAY DNB COULD SURVIVE WITHOUT MCS (AND THATS COMING FROM A DJ!) I LOVE GOING TO A CLUB AND HEARING SOMEONE LIKE SKIBADEE OR TRIGGA SMASHING A PHAT LYRIC 2 A WICKED TRACK! ON THE OTHER HAND THERE IS A HANDFUL OF MCS ON THE SCENE WHAT I THINK THE SET WOULD BE BETA OFF WITHOUT! ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY MC OVER A VOCAL TRACK OR SCRATCHING!
ANYHOW, JUST TRYING 2 PROVOKE SOME DNB CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE KRISIS FAM! LET ME AND EVERYONE KNOW WHAT U THINK....

My personal view is an MC works better at an event than on radio, but I agree with you Fly in that they do need to let the tune be heard and not overpower things.
On radio I think an MC can be good to help encourage liveliness in the chatroom, they are also better placed to see the countries locked in order to give shoutouts etc. On a show with a webcam it also works well to have an MC as it gives something interesting for people to watch instead of a pair of hands and some decks.
The most important thing is for an MC to enhance the experience of the people listening to it. If the MC remembers that then it works well.
