Oxfordshire based Shufunk (Carl Alford) developed a passion for drum and bass at the age of 16 when he bought his first Helter Skelter tape pack. This was soon followed by a set of decks and a young Shufunk taught himself to mix. He later began experimenting with music production software and soon crossed paths with fellow local dj / producer Deli J. They started spending a lot of time in the studio together, inspiring and learning from each other. With the aid of Deli J's engineering, coupled with Shufunk's creativity, he developed a unique and upbeat style which has evolved into the attention grabbing sound he possesses today. It was this partnership that led to the creation of Subfuzion Records. Armed with a catalogue of tracks between them and a platform for which to expose their material, it was time to step things up a gear. The hard work started paying off, with Shufunk's tracks frequently being featured on download sites and forums all over the world. With his own and the label’s profile rising, he began to network and collaborate with artists such as Callide, Panik , Erb n Dub and Dose to name a few. Things began to move quickly for Shufunk and interest into his sound was growing, not least of all from legendary Mix’n’Blen head honcho Kenny Ken, who signed his first 12” release ‘Sin city’ (with ‘Bucket’ on the flip). |

KRISISDnB : Thanks for being interviewed for the KRISISDnB.COM website. Firstly can you give us a brief background to how you got into DnB? SHUFUNK : 1st got in to dnb when i was 16, when a few mates had some helter skelter tape packs, so i went and brought myself 1 and instantly feel in love with it. about a year later managed to get myself some decks, and shortly followed by a copy of Reason 2.5 KRISISDnB : Can you tell us the projects you are working on at the moment? SHUFUNK : Workin on a few projects atm with artists such as "Callide" , "Erb n Dub" , "Alter Ego (Twin Audio)". and workin on countless solo tracks, so watch out people!! KRISISDnB : What can we expect from your appearance at your first KRISISDnB event when we get you down later in the year? SHUFUNK : An hour of pure dnb filth with fresh dubs from myself and other artists. KRISISDnB : What other types of music do you listen to? SHUFUNK : Well tbh i dont listen to dnb that much, i normally listen to indie music, my favorite band at the moment is Funeral for a Friend. I also enjoy listening to Uk hip hop. KRISISDnB : What are your targets for the next year or 2? SHUFUNK : to have made a name for myself on both sides of dnb, that being production & dj'ing KRISISDnB : Who are your favourite DJs and MCs worldwide?
