KRISISDnB: Thanks for being interviewed for the website. Firstly can you give us a brief background to how you got into DnB?

TANTRUM DESIRE: It all started up in 2005, when a bunch of our tracks on a load of CD’s was passed out in Spain at a big drum & bass event. This then attracted Nu-Breed’s - MC Shortston, who saw a spark in the production and decided on some business plans, which led him to start up a new label called “Heavyweight Records”. This was our new home label which released tracks such as, The Red Pill, Dreamscape EP, The Inner moon and White light, which had constant air play on radio stations such has 1xtra, Radio 1 and Kiss. We also had bootleg projects lying around in the lab, which gave Shortston another idea to accompany Heavyweight with a bootleg label named “Booty”. This brought you releases such as, “Transformers”, “Jealousy”, “drop it like its hot” and “Can’t stop”.

In early 2008, we were approached by one of the biggest pioneers in the game – Simon ‘Bassline’ Smith, who saw that we had a variety of styles in our drum & bass productions and therefore became interested. This led him to making us an offer and signing us exclusively to his well established label - Technique Recordings.

KRISISDnB : Can you tell us the projects you are working on at the moment?

TANTRUM DESIRE: We have a forthcoming 12” on Worldwide Audio, tracks entitled – “Smile” and flipside “Ready to go”. Soon to be working on a remix for Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s ‘welcome to the jungle’. Also a track for MC Harry Shotta’s forthcoming album.

KRISISDnB: What can we expect from your appearance at your first KRISISDnB event?

TANTRUM DESIRE: Pure dub plates, pure vibes and pure technique!

KRISISDnB: How long have you been mixing and producing and what got you started on both?

TANTRUM DESIRE: Jay (Producer & Dj). I have been producing and DJ’ing for over 7 years now, from experimenting on an Akai S1000 sampler to producing hip hop, garage and house music, receiving hints 'n' tips from some of the top Producers & Dj's in the business. I knew early on that I was made for this! Although I never had access to state of the art equipment, I'm a firm believer in 'take what you have and do your best with it'. Alongside the producing, I was often mixing at local parties and club events, also attending small pirate and internet radio shows.

Dynamic Range (Producer). Many years I spent collecting Jungle tapes borrowed (stolen) from my step dad. My duration at college was spent either in Dj workshops or getting tunnel vision in front of modest PCs messing around with beats. After college I frequented youth projects or any where with easy access to music making equipment. It was there I met Jay who I then joined with on pirate radio stations.

Devon D (DJ). My father was a Jungle Dj and literally 'my seleckta'. I grew up ankle deep in dub plates & white labels. He was also close friends with Dj Special K & Kool fm's Dj Smokesta, I guess you could say it was inevitable. For over 8 years I mixed at house parties, internet shows local gigs and pirate radio stations.

KRISISDnB: What other types of music do you listen to?

TANTRUM DESIRE: Everything, 70’s, 80’s, Reggae, hip hop, garage, breakbeat, House, Soul, orchestra etc. As an artist, its good to be open minded to all genres of music, which has had a great influence on our music and is very inspirational.

KRISISDnB: What are your targets for the next year or 2?

TANTRUM DESIRE: To keep making them beats, performing all over the world and hopefully start up a label.

KRISISDnB: Who are your favourite DJs and MCs worldwide?

TANTRUM DESIRE: It’s quite unfair to answer that because there are many DJ’s and MC’s in the scene that are smashing it and doing well for themselves. But for this interview would have to say Bassline Smith for DJ, for the way he uses old and new technology for his performance is very interesting from seeing it behind the decks. MC would have to be Harry Shotta, who is bringing tight and accurate lyrics to the scene and knows how to hold a crowd well.
